Facebook going to hire 10,000 people in Europe to develop the "metaverse"
The company said it would better "encompass" what it does, as it broadens its reach beyond social media into areas like virtual reality (VR). Means it will be like a platform for various purposes.
The change does not apply to its individual platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp. Only the parent company that owns them.
The move follows a series of negative stories about like Facebook, based on documents leaked by an ex-employee.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg announced the new name as "metaverse" - an online world where people not only game but also work and communicate in a virtual environment, often using VR headsets.
He said the existing brand i.e. facebook, instagram, whatsapp could not possibly represent everything that we are doing and creating today, let it would be alone in the future and needed to change.
Why did Metaverse suddenly become a topic of discussion?
In this digital world everyone is excited about advancements in technology and digital devices. There is a huge excitement about the metaverse among all wealthy investors, big tech firms, thus no-one wants to lose this opportunity if it turns out to be the future of the internet
